The Jays had a season high 12 hits for the game, an improvement over the last couple Sunday league games which totaled 12 hits. Evansville scored two runs in the second inning when Jeremy Rasmussen led off with a base hit bunt. Starting pitcher Wade Janes sac bunted Rasmussen to second. Rasmussen scored all the way from second on a wild pitch and error by the catcher. Still in the second inning Brookes Baumberger walked and Jasen Koebler was hit by a pitch. Cristian Bennett moved Baumberger to third on a fielder's choice to second base to force out Koebler. The next batter Brent Cashore hit a 2-out RBI base hit to score Baumberger. Score Jefferson 3, Evansville 2 In the sixth inning, Rasmussen again led off the inning with a base hit. Relief pitcher Ben Kraus followed with another hit. After a double play by Jefferson, Koebler hit a double to score Rasmussen. Ryan Lindemann hit a solid base hit to score Koebler from second. Score Jefferson 7, Evansville 4 In the eighth inning, Rasmussen hit his third lead off base hit and advanced to second on the next ground ball. Baumberger scored Rasmussen on a base hit. Final score Jefferson 11, Evansville 5 The Jays showed signs of needed offence against Jefferson's ace pitcher and solid defense. Jefferson improves their record to 7-3 for at least a tie for second place in the East Division of the Southeast Section. This week's Thursday Night League game on June 30th is at Blanchardville starting at 7:30 pm. Evansville's Thursday Night League record is now 1-5 after losing to New Glarus 13-1 on June 23rd. On Sunday, July 3rd, the team will travel to Cambridge for a 1:00 pm game, and on Monday, July 4th, Evansville will host Oregon at the Lake Leota upper diamond starting at 1:00 pm. This will be a great opportunity for the team to play in front of the community. Watch for the Jays in the Forth of July Parade; the players will be passing out balls signed by the team.
