On Sunday, Evansville Home Talent Team lost to Utica 17-3 in a
Southeast Section Home Talent League game. Back on May 29th Evansville
beat Utica 4-3 for Evansville's first win in the Home Talent League.
Evansville scored only three runs in the sixth inning. Jasen Koebler
hit a 1-out double, followed by a base hit by Brent Cashore. Koebler
was unable to score on the base hit. Cashore stole second base to
have runners on second and third. Jon Frey hit a one hopper off
the chest of the second baseman to score Koebler from third and
to advance Cashore to third. Frey reached first base safely and
stole second base. Next batter, Jerod Stiendl, hit line drive base
hit between the third baseman and the shortstop to score Cashore
and Frey.
Despite the lopsided score, only one Evansville batter struck out
which is a great improvement over games earlier in the season. On
Sunday, batters put the ball in play and made Utica's defense work.
Evansville hit the ball hard, but right at a defensive player.
It seemed to be just the opposite for Utica. Some of their hits
were softly hit just over the infield, but low and shallow enough
were the outfield could not catch it. Even one Utica batter earned
a base hit on a check swing. Another Utica batter at first looked
like he hit into a tailor made double play, but the ball bounced
sharply over the shortstops reach. That is what you might call "home
field advantage".
