Orfordville 3-2
On Sunday, the Evansville Home Talent Team upset division leader
Orfordville 3-2 in a Southeast Section Home Talent League game.
Sunday was the first annual Appreciation Day game with a picnic
dinner after the game. The team served about 60-70 people. The game
crowd was estimated at around 100 people. All enjoyed the exciting
game.
Evansville score all three of their runs in the third inning. With
one out, Jeremy Rasmussen reach first base on an error. He was followed
by a base hit by Jason Schultz. Next batter, Jon Frey, was hit by
a pitch to load the bases. Jerod Steindl hit a ground ball to the
third baseman, who miss played the ball and did not record an out.
Rasmussen scored on the play. The next Evansville batter struck
out. With two outs, Brookes Baumberger hit a clutch base hit to
score Schultz and Frey.
Solid pitching helped keep Orfordville's bats at bay. Starting
pitcher Nic Larson ended with six strike outs in six innings pitched.
Relief pitchers Ben Kraus and Wade Janes did a great job in not
allowing Orfordville to score. In the top of the eighth inning Orfordville
lead off with a triple, but was unable to score the runner. Kraus
was able to get the next three batters with an infield fly out,
strike out and a ground out. Evansville pitching did not give up
a walk the entire game.
